Stuck in the Slough

Journey to the Celestial City #6. In our continuing look at John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress," today we find the man, Christian (whose name previously was Graceless), traveling towards the Wicket Gate with one called Pliable. On their way they run into an awful bog called, "The Slough of Despond," which bears the name since it's drips with the filth of mankind's wretchedness. Indeed, Christian and Pliable become stuck in the slough. And during the process of coming to Christ we are confronted by our own sin. It's not a pretty sight, who we are and the things we've done that put the Son of God on the cross. Still we must consider and acknowledge our wicked ways. Doing so prepares us to receive God's grace. "The kindness of God leads you to repentance." (Romans 2:4e) More to come in the next blog post. Check back soon. Our church put on a performance of Pilgrim over several nights. It was wonderful. And such an outreach event. People came from far and wide.
Wish I, as an author, had one ounce of Bunyan's perception, wisdom and skill. Still, if five small fishes a feast doth make . . .
