An Extremely Serious Man
Tweet
Journey to the Celestial City #12. In our continuing look at John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress," today we find the man, Christian, having come into the acquaintance of the Interpreter, he is shown seven sights. The first sight is a picture on the wall of an extremely serious man. Among other things, this man has eyes lifted to heaven, the best of books in his hand, the law of truth written upon his lips, he's pleading with men, the world is behind his back and a crown of gold hangs over his head. And this is the type of person we are to listen to when it comes to the things of God. And we must be careful while on our pilgrimage to heaven that we don't pay heed to anyone else other than him (or her) who is sold out for Christ, who speaks the truths of Scripture only, who is a doer of the Word and not just a hearer, who is interested in bringing glory to God and not to himself. Watch out for false guides/teachers. "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." (1 John 4:1) More to come in the next blog post. Check back soon. (To read this entire blog post series, scroll down to "Pilgrim's Progress Series" in the left sidebar.) pp 20-22
