From a Mighty Breed

Journey to the Celestial City #29. In our continuing look at John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress," today we find the man, Christian, upon waking up from such a peaceful sleep, he is led by the ladies of the house to the study. For his own profit Christian is allowed to view the ancestry of the Lord of the hill and in detail His righteous acts. Of course, He is the Son of the Ancient of Days. And having called many into His service, the names of these and their deeds Christian is also given the opportunity to consider. The ladies read aloud of the saints' value and worth: "how they had subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, and turned to flight the armies of the aliens." And in Christ's name the people of God do great exploits. What part of His service/the battle do you find yourself in today? Stand strong, good Christian. You are from a mighty breed. Stand strong and gain the victory. "'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the Lord." (Zechariah 4:6) "Greater is He who is in you than He who is in the world." (1 John 4:4) More to come in the next blog post. Check back soon. (To read this entire blog post series, scroll down to "Pilgrim's Progress Series" in the left sidebar.) pp 45-46
