Instruments of God in the Hands of Men

Journey to the Celestial City #30. In our continuing look at John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress," today we find the man, Christian, "on the morrow" with the ladies of the house in the study a second time. In this museum of sorts he is allowed to look upon ancient instruments of God whereby in the hands of men great victories were won. Among these are: "(1) Moses' rod; (2) the hammer and nail which Jael slew Sisera; (3) the pitchers, trumpets and lamps ... with which Gideon put to flight the armies of Midian. [Christian is also shown] (4) the ox' goad, wherewith Shamgar slew six hundred men ... (5) the jawbone with which Samson did such mighty feats ... (6) the sling and stone with which David slew Goliath ... and (7) the sword also with which [the Lord Jesus] will kill the man of sin (Antichrist)." And so what do you find in your hand? And whatever it is - whatever instrument of God (ie. time, talent, treasure) you have at your disposal, are you using it to bring to an end the reign of unrighteousness? "And after him came Shamgar the son of Anath, who struck down six hundred Philistines with an oxgoad; and he also saved Israel." (Judges 3:31) More to come in the next blog post. Check back soon.
