Companions for the Journey

Journey to the Celestial City #42. In our continuing look at John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress," today we find the man, Christian, slipping past a now powerless Pope and dead Pagan as he leaves the Valley of the Shadow of Death. He spies ahead and what is it that he sees? Why, of all things, it's another pilgrim! He calls out to one, Faithful, to wait, but he will neither slow nor turn even a step behind with "the avenger of blood" on his heels. So Christian must run Faithful down. And does. In this way the two are joined together as companions for the journey. And if you've been following Jesus very long, you've walked both alone at times and with a companion at other times. And maybe it is that you're alone today. But could it be that God has somebody just over that next ascent to lock arms with of like mind and heart? I'd like to suggest He does. And it might even be that he/she is already in your life. You just haven't given him/her a chance. "Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself." (1 Samuel 18:1) More to come in the next blog post. Check back soon. (To read this entire blog post series, scroll down to "Pilgrim's Progress Series" in the left sidebar.) pp 58-59
