Disarmed

Having been "[deprived] of a weapon or weapons, the means of attack or defense." Disarmed. It's what happened to the Roman soldiers when they came to arrest Christ. (Do you remember?) "When Jesus said to them, I am He, they went backwards (drew back, lurched backward) and fell to the ground." (John 18:6; Amplified)

And there are other examples of "disarming" in the Bible. God disarmed Jacob in an all-night wrestling match. (Genesis 32:24) Moses disarmed Pharoah with the death of the firstborn plague. (Exodus 12:29-32) Stephen disarmed the wicked religious leaders with his testimony. (Acts 7:54) A blinding light disarmed Saul on the Damascus road. (Acts 9:3-4) And there are more.

What are you "armed" with? Common armaments: pride, shame, past hurt, superiority complex, "look at how spiritual I am" syndrome, how big or great your church is, lustful thoughts, pattern of / habitual sin, etc. Jesus would have us disarmed. Jesus would have us only armed with Him. "But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts." (Romans 13:14) (flickr picture by gwenael.piaser)

I find myself needing to disarm on a regular basis. Even then I sometimes arm myself again. [shaking head]
