A Heart For God: Paid in Full

Paid in Full

"It is finished!" (John 19:30) It was with those three words that Jesus Christ declared mankind's redemption accomplished. There's nothing more that can be added. There's nothing more that need be done. Our sins are forgiven (if we believe). Our eternal destiny is secure (we are headed to heaven when this life is through). And our time on earth has extraordinary meaning and purpose. (Ephesians 2:10; Romans 8:28) And so why is it that I sometimes run around like I'm having to earn God's favor (as if I could)? The fact is I already have it! (Jesus said so.) And what if we began to live like that? I mean, what if we really took to heart that God is our friend and we are His, that "It is finished!" means paid in full and "If God be for us, who can be against us?"? (Romans 8:31; KJV) (That's when the devil starts shaking in his boots.)

This is so easy to read and so hard to grasp. I think deep down we find this hard to accept, that our sins might be removed as far as the east is from the west.
